Learning about and practicing good habits is key to creating a healthier lifestyle. The book “Atomic Habits” by James Clear is a fantastic read if you want to understand the significance of habits in your life as well as the best techniques for implementing positive ones into your daily routine.
Most of these healthy lifestyle tips can be simplified as small habits to integrate into your day or week. Everything in life is simply a practice, if you want to be healthy, all you need to do is show up and practice! The more you do so, the easier it will become.
The book goes over many realistic techniques to build good habits like habit stacking, reducing friction, and many more!
Cook or meal prep or just remember to eat at all.
It is important to remember that everyone has a different story with different challenges and struggles. Some people find it difficult to stick to a healthy diet, while others have a hard time either finding the time to eat or getting past mental health hurdles to do so.
Our bodies are incredibly intricate and breathtakingly beautiful systems that work incredibly hard to keep us alive and well. But in order to carry out that task of wellness and good mental health, we need to nourish our bodies and give them all the support and supplies they need!
“Our bodies are our gardens– our wills are our gardeners.”
– William Shakespeare
Make sure you get enough sleep, and block out time for a nap!
It can be difficult and frustrating to have a lack of sleep because of a busy schedule or a medical condition like insomnia. If you do have health conditions impacting your sleep, it is important to seek out a medical professional. Depending on your current struggles in life, getting good quality and plenty of sleep can be a less simple task than most of us would hope.
Despite this, It is so important and beneficial to keep your sleep in mind and treat it as a priority in your life. Our bodies need sleep and it is pretty much impossible to try to live a healthy and happy lifestyle if we haven’t had any rest for 48 hours straight.
If you do have trouble sleeping, you can experiment with different things to prep your body for a good night’s rest. Some ideas for that could be
Drink a cup of chamomile or sleepytime tea before bed
Limit screen time and avoid technology an hour or two before bed
Take a bit of melatonin
Turn on soothing music or rain sounds. (or even cats purring)
Try a different pillow or blankets
Try turning on a fan
These are only a few examples of things you could try, but it is dependent on who you are and what you struggle with. Keeping a consistent sleep schedule is also crucial to being able to sleep at a desired time.
Give yourself time to have fun and be at ease. Whether that is playing a video game or learning to crochet a hat for your pet bird (or something)
A lot of the time it can be easy to get caught up in work and feel guilt for wanting to take time for yourself or for a hobby. However, having something fun on the side can not only be incredibly enriching to your life but also open up new and exciting opportunities!
It’s obvious but it really does help! You don’t have to meditate a certain way. You can do classic crisscross applesauce or lying down or even in the shower. You can sit in silence and focus on your breath and mindfulness or listen to a guided meditation on YouTube. You can also listen to sleep meditations!
There are many different ways to take care of yourself. Maybe you need you time, maybe you need to socialize. It can be difficult to understand and know all the time so the most crucial part is learning to listen to yourself and your feelings.
Sometimes our ideas of self-care are very frilly and expensive and sometimes feel like more work than relaxation. While it is completely acceptable to prep a big bubble bath with ambient lighting, candles, essential oils, bath salts, flowers, a book, music, and whatever else you can think of, it is also a fabulous idea to just maybe take a nap, or call a friend, or just read a book.
You don’t need to make it complicated or aesthetically pleasing. Self-care can be just practicing listening to yourself and leaving a function if you feel tired or uncomfortable.
It is usually a good idea to have an environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle. When the kitchen is clean, you may be more likely to cook, have guests over, or just feel better in general. Everyone has different interior design preferences, so whatever your dream home or room is it should be a place that makes you feel safe, refreshed, and inspired!
“When a flower does not bloom, do you blame the flower or its environment?”
This list is some of the most important and worthwhile priorities you can have in your life. Taking special care of your body, mind, and environment will shape your life for the better and bring abundance into your life. A healthy lifestyle is not as far or as difficult as it may seem to emulate.
Baby steps are much bigger and much more important than people realize! You are most likely doing much better than you know. The best and most fundamental aspects of your routine to focus on are your overall habits, nutrition, sleep, personal time, meditation, self-care, and environment care and design.
